I’ve been looking for one of these machines for a long time. Shipping one from the US was just going to be too expensive, so when one appeared on Yahoo Auction Japan, I grabbed it. I will update this page as I restore this machine. Some things of interest is that the motherboard has ‘Commodore J’ written on it, the motherboard serial number is 1026, and the model number is 2001-8B.

Update: 10/3/11 Much thank to Ethan Dicks the Pet is now working. I burnt and installed the Japanese CHARGEN ROM that I recreated and was able to confirm operation by doing a POKE 59468,14. This ROM file can be downloaded from my server here. However I can not confirm that this ROM image is exactly like the original. I am still trying to find someone with an original Japanese CHARGEN ROM so I can make a copy of it. Can you help?

Update: 11/3/11 After a day of playing with the Pet, the 34 year old drive belt snapped on the cassette deck. Fortunately I was able to easily get a replacement from Akehabara. While in the Maranouchi subway train on the way back from Akihabara, the Sendai earthquake hit measuring M9. Quite a surreal experience being underground during that. Needless to say all Pet activities have stopped for the time being.
