Pirate Adventure Weekend Cardboard and Duct Tape Boat Building Competition and Race
The competition is open to children and adults. Age divisions are 6 years and under,
7-12 years and 13 years and over. All boats must be constructed prior to race time using cardboard and duct tape only. The use of plastic, bubble wrap, styrofoam or any other material is not allowed.
*Winners in the 6 years and under division will receive trophies following round 1 and will not be competing in the finals that night.
Round 1: Boats may be built with any kind of cardboard and with as much duct tape as you wish to use. Also, boat may be of any style. Vessels will be powered by oars or paddles of your choice and there may be only one passenger per vessel. Race will be held at Lori’s Pond on August 14, 2010. Boats can only be sailed once by one person.
Round 2: The three captains (in the two older age groups) to sail across the finish line the fastest will be given identical “Cardboard Boat Kits” provided by the LOC Recreation Dept. With these kits the top three captains will build a final boat to compete for the top trophy at the Pirate Pool Party that night at 7pm. Boats may be powered by hands and/or feet only, no oars or paddles will be allowed in the pool for the final race. One passenger per boat.
