In 1992 I co-founded the San Francisco office of MetaDesign with partners Erik Spiekermann and Bill Hill, serving as principle and creative director until 2001. I directed a wide variety of projects for clients such as Nike, Barclay’s Bank, Sony, Apple, Ernst & Young, Nissan, Hewlett-Packard, The Getty Museum and IDEO Product Design to name a few.

I am currently based in Fife, Scotland and work with clients and design firms in both North America and Europe on a variety of projects that include brand strategy, identity system development, interaction/information design and communication design. Working with clients to address issues connected to sustainability and developing products and services for changing lifestyles is a key part of my work.

In 2005 I co-authored (along with Julie Richardson and Chris Sherwin) a sustainability report on sustainable product design in the UK for the Design Council, DTI and Defra. The report looked at the relationship between business, design, consumers/users and policy makers as the basis for understanding how design for sustainability can become a main-stream approach.
