Nice lunch with Bruce up north. Coffee by Pier 1 (pic above), chat and movie with Patrick (Nightwatch, excellent!).
Patrick and I talked about having Hyperwords™ not come up and be annoying when you don’t need it. We also talked a bit about Hyperwords™ being used when editing text and not reading text. I realized that it’s OK for the menu to come up (maybe in a smaller visual form) if it wasn’t annoying, if it didn’t obscure the text. Hmm... And I realized that it’s OK for it to come up when writing big blocks of text, but annoying when coming up in text fields, where I find I have to edit information often (like log-in names).
The answer was so obvious I felt my mother talking to me: “If it’s useful in big text boxes and annoying in small text boxes, why don’t you only enable it in big text boxes?” So this is what we’ll try to do, and by ‘we’ I mean Mikhail. Very cool indeed!
After talking to Patricia and then to Janine, I decided to backtrack a bit on the Flock Hyperwords™ Simple approach.
Patricia's innovation that you only have to click on, fx. 'search' to do a Google search needs to be more understood. It’s now larger in the User Guide.
The following will be user-set-able but default set by us. Instead of everything being a single choice. Should be done soon!
Important new Preferences will include settings for what service to use for. [X] is the default/shipping selections:
(we won't need to give options for the others yet I think)
A great line from the movie Nightwatch. The voice-over talked about why many essentially give up: “It’s easier to extinguish the light within you, than to light the darkness in those around you.”
