Welcome to Lippencott Alpacas!

The first alpaca farm in Greene County, PA

Lippencott Alpacas, nestled in the rolling hills of southwestern Pennsylvania about an hour south of Pittsburgh, is located on Lena’s family farm.  The farm has been in the family for four generations and has had many transformations from chicken and egg production to sheep and cattle production and now alpaca production.  It is our goal to keep the family farming tradition alive and to grow our alpaca herd into a significant source of quality alpaca fiber in Greene County.  (For years Greene and neighboring Washington counties have been known in the wool community for their quality wool production.) We have been well received by the local fiber community, especially the local crafters and spinners.  In the 1800’s the village of Lippencott supported a country store, public telephone and a whiskey distillery.  We chose Lippencott as part of our name to emphasize this heritage.

Our mission is to educate the public about alpacas; grow a quality alpaca herd that is competitive in the alpaca marketplace; and become a regional source for alpaca fiber and alpaca products.

We started our farm in November, 2005 with 3 bred females and 2 female crias (babies).  We now have 30 alpacas and are growing fast!  Many of our alpacas are for sale.

We encourage people to come for our free farm tours and to visit our  Farm Store.  To-date, we have had numerous visits by schools, day camps, special needs groups, many individuals and family groups.  We participate annually in National Alpaca Farm Day where hundreds of interested people have came to learn about these wonderful animals and to enjoy the various activities!

We manufacture extreme knit hats using natural alpaca fiber on our commercial circular knitting machine.  We are the first in the industry (as far as we know) to offer these double layer knit hats to the public.  We currently have natural white, hunter orange and silver gray in large and x-large sizes.  We are members of the “PA Preferred Program”.

We are prepared to travel to local events with our alpacas to promote alpaca education and to exhibit alpaca products.  We offer a wide variety of alpaca products for sale in our farm store for those wishing to purchase quality products.

We also promote Agri-Tourism in Greene County.
