This song was inspired by the use of a pedal. I'd been playing around with amping my oboe and English horn, and running the sound through guitar pedals to create some audio effects, and the octave pedal really struck me.  Not only did it work really well, but immediately I was drawn to how it made the English horn sound like a church organ.  The original piece was solo English horn with the pedal turned on at certain points to add a second lower octave. The result resembles a Gregorian chant you'd hear in a cathedral.  The remixed version with added effects by Linnea adds a spooky element.
