Deus Meus (Spartan Battle Prayer) 2:46

I wrote “Deus Meus: The Spartan Battle Prayer” in the winter of 2005 after seeing photographs of Allied soldiers praying together before going into combat in World War II.  It occurred to me that surely in the Halo universe there would be UNSC troops that would do the same.

The lyrics are based on Psalm 143(144):  ...benedictus Dominus Deus meus qui docet manus meas ad proelium digitos meos ad bellum - Blessed be the Lord my strength, who teaches my hands to war, and my fingers to fight...” (King James Translation)

I never released the music as I’d promised it to the SSPH and SVF production crews for two related  pivotal scenes in SSPH 0.4 and SvF 11, which alas have not come to fruition.  The producers have given me leave to release this piece now in honor of Memorial Day, which is commemorated on May 28, 2007 this year in the United States.

The Spartan Battle Prayer
Sunday, May 27, 2007
O benedictus Deus meus. Deus meus in te confido
Eripe me et libera me de manu advorsarum alienigenum
Servo Terrae
Amen

O Blessed be my God, my God who teacheth my hands to war
O Blessed be my God, who teacheth my fingers to battle
Send forth lightning on sinners and scatter them
and in thy mercy thou wilt destroy my enemies
Rescue me and deliver me from many stars and many perils
O Blessed be my God, my God who teacheth my hands to war
O Blessed be my God. My God, in you I put my trust
Rescue me and deliver me from the hand of alien adversaries
Watch over and protect the Earth
Amen
