Utility Class


• The Utility A class shall be for dogs who have earned the CDSP Open obedience title (CDX-H)

The Utility B class shall be for dogs who have earned the CDSP Utility obedience title (UD-H) Once a dog has earned the CDSP Utility title in the A class, it may continue to be shown in Utility A for 60 days. After 60 days it may be shown in Utility, but must be shown in Utility B. A dog may compete in Utility B indefinitely.

Utility Dog Title

The letters UD-H may be added after the name of each dog that has earned three qualifying scores of 170 or better by two different judges in the Utility  class. Title certificates will be issued and sent by the CDSP Coordinator to all teams earning the CDSP Utility Dog Title.

Order of Exercises

Any of the following three orders may be used. The judge must post, prior to the first team entering the ring, which order will be used for the entire class.

Order #1

Signals 40 points

Off Leash Heeling 40 points

Running Broad Jump 40 points

Scent Discrimination 40 points

Retrieve on the Flat 40 points

Order #2

Drop on Recall 40 points

Off Leash Figure 8 40 points

Novice Moving Stand / Exam 40 points

Directed Retrieve 40 points

Retrieve Over High Jump 40 points

Directed Jumping 40 points

Directed Retrieve 40 points

Off Leash Heeling 40 points

Seek Back 40 points

The optional Bonus Exercise, Baseball, has a point value of 20 points.

Utility Dog Excellent Title

After earning the CDSP Utility Dog title and then six qualifying scores of 170 or above in the Utility B class, a dog will be awarded the Utility Dog Excellent

Obedience Trial Championship Title

After earning the CDSP Utility Dog title and accumulating a total of 100 points in the Utility B class as follows, a dog will be awarded the CDSP Obedience Trial Championship title. The designation OTCH-H will appear before the dog’s name and a title certificate will be issued by the CDSP Coordinator.
