L.I.F.E. Classes and Programs

The L.I.F.E. School offers a variety of classes and programs not available on the main campus. These classes have been designed to stress learning through experience rather than classroom note-taking. Classes are much more engaging and personal so that each student receives the proper attention necessary for effective learning.
IMP Math
IMP or Interactive Mathematics Program is the program both juniors and seniors adhere to, at different levels of course. The program integrates hands-on, lab style assignments into math, making it a very unique class. Each level has its own central focus, a centralized idea or question that students solve by the end of the unit using the mathematics that they learn. The senior IMP level is an introductory statistics class.
Docent Program
In the student docent program juniors take weekly field trips to a museum and learn how to question and understand the art there. Once they become familiar with the museum they lead a tour of the museum to seniors in the L.I.F.E. School as well as students from the main campus.
Environmental Science
This is the juniors’ science class and it focuses on the environment in all aspects. The class is based almost entirely on lab-work and also includes two very constructive debates that center on important environmental issues
Economics
L.I.F.E. economics is a very special class. This class is offered as an alternative to the main campus’ economics class and is a perfect embodiment of the spirit of the L.I.F.E. program. The curriculum is negotiated with the students - so the students decide what they will study and how to study it!  In past years, students created business plans and ran their own business!!!
US Foreign Policy
Similar to Economics, the curriculum in this course is negotiated with the students.  Students study current day issues/crises/problems and possible policy solutions.  Students have studied the Iraq War, the rise of China, protection of intellectual property rights, the genocide in Darfur, and countless other topics.
SUPA Forensics
This is the seniors’ science class. SUPA Forensics is part of Syracuse University’s Project Advance. As a member of this class you are considered a Syracuse University student and you receive four College chemistry credits for Syracuse’s fee which is considerably less than any regular college course. This class teaches students about criminology, or the application of science to solving crime. Forensics is also almost entirely lab-based and covers topics from fingerprinting to DNA analysis.
7 Bridges Project
A very special experience, the 7 Bridges Project allows students to work as pairs with teachers in 7 Bridges Middle School. Students design a lesson plan on a topic of their choice and present it to their middle school class. Students have had very positive experiences with this program.
