About the artist
“It’s really a matter of painting the light,” says Lil Parks.

Born in San Francisco, and now living in Waynesville NC by way of New York, Atlanta and Miami, she is married and has six children.

After earning a BFA from San Jose State University, Ms. Parks studied at the University of London, Slade School and Chelsea School of Fine Arts, learning to work in all media. She especially enjoys painting in transparent watercolor.

Ms. Parks taught at the Metropolitan Museum in Coral Gables, and has two large building murals at the Marine School (RSMAS) of the University of Miami. She has judged and juried art shows and feels that a strong underlying design is most important in any work of art. “If there is not a good solid abstract pattern beneath art work, it will not hold together.”

Her paintings may be found in many corporate and private collections. She is a signature member of the Florida Watercolor Society, International Society of Marine Painters, Watercolor Society of N.C. and other state and national art organizations. Counted among her many awards are the Grumbacher Gold and Silver medallions.
