About Our Trip...
Who:
-
Randy Bush-Produce Salesman by trade, Evangelist at heart, and Elder at Owensboro Christian Church.
-
Shawn Green-Middle School Minister at OCC.
When: We depart Evansville, IN at 1:55p on Sunday, April 6th and return on Thursday, April 17th at 4:45p.
Where: From Evansville we’ll fly to Chicago then board a plane to Brussels, Belgium and finally on to Monrovia, the capitol city of Liberia. When it’s all said and done, Randy and I will have spent 51 hours traveling to and from Liberia
Liberia, which stands for “Liberty” or “Land of the Free,” is located on the West Coast of Africa. In 1822, Liberia was established by the U.S. as a refuge for freed slaves. Two Civil Wars, spanning from 1989 to 2003, left Liberia in disarray both physically and spiritually. However, praise be to the Almighty God for the lives that are being changed daily because of His Son, Jesus Christ. He is restoring Liberia and many feel that His work there is just the beginning of what will be a revival sweeping through Western Africa. Because of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Liberia truly is becoming the “Land of the Free.”

What: While in Liberia, our host, Hananiah Zoe, has arranged for us a variety of experiences. We will visit orphanages and share the love of Jesus with children that lost parents during the civil war. We will take part in impromptu street preaching, which, according to Hananiah, will bring people out of their stores and homes because they are so excited to hear about Jesus. We will also get to meet with and train village Pastors, many of which have only been Christians for a couple of years and are hungry for a deeper knowledge of God’s Word, both for themselves and their community.
What’s exciting is that these are only the experiences we are planning for. Only God knows what He has in store for us and we can’t wait to find out!
How: Many have asked how they can get involved in our trip and words cannot express the joy that brings us. Randy has created what he calls a “Menu of Blessings,” which you will find below.
In our hearts, we truly feel that prayer is our biggest need. We have already seen God work through the prayers of His people and we strongly believe that it’s only through prayer that our trip will produce any fruit worth bearing. First and foremost, please join us, and many others, as we pray for doors to be opened and hearts to be soft as we share the Good News of Jesus.
Menu of Blessings
-
1. Soccer Balls-Hananiah held back tears as we informed him of this effort. The cost of these normally $15 balls is only $5.50 each through a connection that Dan Eaton, our Elementary Minister, has. With the money raised for soccer balls, we will arrange for a drop shipment from the supplier to Liberia. More soccer balls equals more smiles!
-
2.Rice-$45 dollars will buy a 100 pound bag of rice, enough to feed a large family for one month. Rice is considered a source of life in Liberia. More rice equals more hearts open to hear about the true source of Life.
-
3.Land-Hananiah’s team has located land to purchase that will house a school, medical center, and church; all three equally important in reaching the lost in Liberia. This prime area, surrounded by several Islamic Mosque’s, only costs $3,600, of which we have already received $1,250. Land acquired equals lives that will be changed.
-
4.Support Money-Monies collected as “Support” go towards paying airfare and other travel expenses for Shawn and Randy. We are estimating $7,000 as the total for airfare, food, shelter, and transportation during our ten day stay.
