Time with Tengelmann...

Today has been quite an exciting day so far. We headed to the grocery store shortly after breakfast, which is always an adventure when Samuel is there. :) It´s always an adventure getting him into his car seat, but today he was pretty good about it. :)
Silke told Samuel she´d move the seat up, (the front passenger seat) and smiled at me and hopped into the car. :) How sneaky. I ended up driving to the grocery store, the drink market, and then home. It was probably the most comfortable I´ve felt driving around here so far. I feel like I already know my way around Forstenried, which is nice. Now I just have to concentrate on the driving rules.
After our adventure at the grocery store, Samuel and I had ballet time, and waltzed to Chopin. For lunch, we used up the rest of the ground beef, and some of the eggplant from Jürgen (Silke´s dad). Silke made up a really yummy recipe, and I thought it would be fun to share it with you. We´ve been trying to come up with a fun name for it, so if you have any ideas, let me know.:)

“Sığır kıyması ve patlıcan :)”
Eggplant, chopped            thyme
ground beef                       oregano
mixed rice                          marjoram
                                            salt
                                            pepper

Cook ground meat thoroughly, then add chopped eggplant.
Rice should cook separately.
Add spices to meat/eggplant.

Serve. :)

Sam is down for his nap, so I´m going to use this oppertunity to take a little nap myself. I´ll write more later.

Here is a short list of things I have learned (from experience and other´s advice) about taking a little one to the grocery store:
- If the little one is anything like Samuel, they will want to climb all over the car once they are let out of their car seat. Having a drink, or telling them where they are about to go usually helps get them out. If they´re in a playful mood, it could take a little longer. If you try to make getting out of the car a game, they´ll be happy. :)
- Try to find a fun cart that he/she will LIKE to sit in. If they don´t like it, they won´t sit down.
- Find a way to select what you need, hold the little one (as they are usually standing), and somehow negotiate the cart down the small aisles.
- When going down the aisle, try to keep the cart an equal distance from both shelves, as little hands will try to grab things when driving by. If you can get them to sit, even better.
- Depending on how long the trip lasts, it´s usually good to either bring something for them to munch on, or give them some veggies to munch on.
- DO NOT take them down the chocolate aisle.
- Or the cookie aisle.
- When paying, let them help put things on the counter. :) They like helping.
- If there is any kind of plastic horse, ladybug, etc, they will usually want to sit on it. If they don´t know it does more than sit there, don´t tell them. :D Samuel is usually very happy bouncing up and down on it, and as of yet hasn´t figured out that it moves once some money is inserted. I wonder how long that will last...
