Adventures in der Stadt...

After a long week, it was refreshing to have a day just for myself. I had a wonderful time wandering around the city, exploring stores, and taking pictures. :) I also wrote quite a bit in my journal. :)
My main goal for the day was to find something special for Samuel´s birthday. I had a lot of fun poking around in ritzy children´s stores, looking at books, and looking at clothes. It´s amazing that people are willing to spend SO much on children´s clothes! Burberry has it´s own children´s line, as do many of the designers. For Munich, though, I suppose this isn´t terribly surprising.
Over the course of the day, I wandered from Odeonsplatz to Marienplatz to the University. After looking in probably 20 different stores, I ended up going back to the very first one I went in, and got some books for Samuel. I figured it would be fun for him to have a puzzle and some books rather than clothes. ;)
For lunch, I decided to go to Augustiner Braü, München. Founded in 1328, this restaurant is very well known in Munich, and is delicious! I sat in the indoor atrium, and enjoyed having a meal all to myself, as well as people-watching. :)
Before I headed home, I made the rather foolish decision to see Miami Vice. It was as I had had thought: a waste of money. It was interesting, though, to see a theatre full of teenagers reacting to a movie about Neo-nazi drug traders. At one point, they zoomed in on a swastika tattoo, and a hush went over the crowd. While most of the jokes were funny to me as well as the German audience, there were a few jokes that only Americans would get. While there were some great cinematic shots and funny jokes, I wouldn´t recommend it.
Overall, it was a fantastic day, and I really enjoyed getting out for a bit and spending some time on my own. :) I miss my friends, though. :)
