Hello All,
Once again, I´ve let weeks fly by without updating...woops there. Just wanted to catch you all up on what I´ve been doing lately. :)
The weather here in Munich has been spectacular. Most days it´s been perfectly clear and sunny and about 55*F. Sam and I have spent a lot of time playing out in the yard and enjoying the beautiful sunshine. Unfortunately, I have no pictures of that as my memory card was full, but I´m sure we´ll be having more days like that in the near future. :) We weeded in the garden and cleared all the old branches/stalks out and have been working on developing Sam´s little garden plot. It´s been great fun.
Have been doing a fair bit of cooking and baking as well. Some of my favorites so far: Chicken Divan, French Chocolate Cake, Asparagus and Ham Quiche, Gingersnaps, and many other things. You can find some pics of my culinary delights on the most recent photo page. Recipes will be updated soon, too.
The Security Conference took place at the Bayrischer Hof Feb. 9-11th. I´m sure you all heard about Putin´s speech, in which he heavily criticized the US for it´s “ “uncontained use” of force around the world”- BBC News (10.2.07). His and Defense Secretary Gates´speeches are definitely worth a read. The entire weekend, almost all of downtown was blocked off, and many protests were staged.
I´ve also started attending the weekly meetings of a University club called AEGEE. It´s been fun to meet more european students and get to know some German students as well. It´s a wonderful group of people, and I´m loving the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. It also continually impresses me how much students here know about politics in the US. In one discussion, someone was talking about a press conference held by Rumsfeld, and was quoting from it. Needless to say, I´ve been reading about every newspaper I can lately to widen my perspective, and allow me to participate in the discussions. It´s been great fun (and wonderful German practice!)
We´re heading to Klosters, Switzerland for a week of skiing on Saturday. That should be great fun. I´ll be sure to let you know of our adventures when I return.
That´s about it for now. All the best from München...
