Les's teaching approach is very much a blend of the old and new. Born form the belief that a competent and skilled musician is one that is aware of the many levels and compositional detail that he believes is needed to deliver a persuasive musical performance. This is why a typical lesson with Les will involve a more in-depth and holistic approach that is often neglected in contemporary teaching.
Les teaches students of all ages and abilities, focusing his attention on the students needs. It is the joy of playing that matters most. This has made Les an extremely popular and highly sought after teacher.
Over many years Les has lectured and embraced the ever popular Jazz workshops that he and others have made such a success. Les describes the workshops as
“A wonderful experience for the beginner to intermediate student to learn new skills, and more importantly have the opportunely to play with other like-minded musicians”
in addition to this, Les has given master-classes and lectures on Jazz at LIPA ( Liverpool institute for the performing arts) and the RNCM ( Royal northern college of music ) as well as for EPTA ( European piano teachers association ) and various summer schools.
