Beginning of the End

After the last adventure, I didn’t do much with the car except get it into the garage--which took a lot of work clearing out room for the car. I also tried to do some testing of the wiring to see what was working or not, but I wasn’t sure how to do it safely. So I joined the yahoo C-Car group and asked for advice.

So on Friday, I set up a light, I jacked up the back of the car (using the differential as suggested). Then I tried the gas--once again slow speed does nothing but the car works in middle speed.

I switched over to reverse and tried it. This time it seems that slow
does something--in particular it causes a blue-green flame to flare
around the back of the Forward/Reverse contactor. I look and there
appears to be some damage to the white posts that hold up the top.

Today* I took the car for a spin up and down the block--it turns out that if I press the pedal down to “medium” speed--the jerkiness stops and the car moves nicely.

Update: Further testing shows that the solenoid that switches between low and middle speed is currently shorted--this is probably caused by a broken spring and likely explains the jerkiness from before.

*I never finished this blog entry so this is a reconstruction of what really happened.
