My work crosses many disciplines. As a colleague, Dineh Davis (U. Hawai'i) recently said:

  1. "I have lots of depth...it's just that most of it is horizontal"

My particular skill seems to be to travel between disciplines and pull together theories, methods and approaches that illuminate old problems in new ways (I hope). Consequently, I am always learning...a perpetual student.

  1. "Learning is always a little bit transgressive, and what we learn around the edges of . . . established disciplines often sticks more than what we learn when we're in harness."

Garber, 2003
