This section of the web site is designed provide you with inexpensive ideas about changing your instruction so that it is consistent with the needs of your students. It contains several short articles and lists of activities, each presenting ideas for classroom adaptations in areas related to the information presented in the Fast Facts or other parts of this site. This section gives you specific ideas about “what to do” after you read the sections that talk about “what students need.” There is a lot of talk about what “needs” to be done, lesson plans, and appropriate instruction. This section is designed to move you to the action stage, where you are actually trying new ways to teach or using new materials in your instruction.
One of the most important things that you can do is to try using new approachs. Start small, don’t be afraid to be creative, and observe the reactions of your students and the results that you achieve. Set specific goals for yourself, “I’m going to try one new idea every week,” and before long you will have a whole toolbox of new strategies.
Many of the suggested activities are very easy to do, so don’t be afraid to try. What is most important is that you implement some of the suggested activities and observe the outcomes.
