Hill House Arts Retreat
Hill House Arts Retreat
Located halfway between Spencer and Freedom, Indiana, Hill House is designed to serve the retreat needs of one to five adults. Residencies are available for one or more weeks; weekend residencies are dependent upon availability.
Hill House was framed around its original 200 year-old log pioneer cabin in the 1930s, and stands on a hilltop inside sixty refuge acres. It was completely renovated and opened as an arts retreat in 2002. Surrounding meadows and woods are cut by paths to a scenic pond, dry-wash streams, and rock waterfalls.
The gravel driveway, off a major
highway, is graded and accessible. Local
attractions include nearby McCormick’s
Creek State Park, and Indiana University,
in Bloomington, is 22 miles away.
Hill House offers natural beauty and
seclusion to small writing or focus
groups, and to arts practitioners
seeking retreat conditions.
A “home-away-from-home,” guests need bring only personal effects and groceries; the kitchen is fully equipped, beds are made up and ready and, for residencies of more than a week, towels and linens are replaced weekly with complimentary housekeeping included.
Welcome!
