Where we stayed

We really lucked out on accommodations. We found some beautiful cottages in a tiny gated paradise right in the middle of everything. Bonita and Ed were excellent hosts as well as magnificent gardeners. They treated us to excellent suggestions as well as bananas picked right off their banana...trees? Banana shrubs...plants? They were damn good. I loved their story.

Ed was born in the Azores but moved to Canada when he was 11.  He met up with Bonita and they raised some kids in BC, Canada, but Ed always had the Azores in the back of his mind. He took Bonita there; she was wowed. They eventually decided to buy a vacation home there. Ed went to look at places and came across a listing for a farm. Visiting the ‘farm’ he found this little paradise complete with a half dozen cottages and a spectacular house with gorgeous views of Ponta Delgada and the Atlantic. He called Bonita, who immediately booked a flight to check it out before he signed any checks. After a brief discussion, they decided to give up their former lives, buy Quinta das Acacias and start new lives. They’ve lived happily ever after since then.

I wish our pictures did justice to the privacy, comfort and landscaping of the cottages, but they don’t. You’ll have to visit to see for yourself. Their link: quintadasacacias.net
