After the success of The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, writer-director Stephen Sommers teamed with longtime collaborator Bob Ducsay to form Sommers Company, which has a multi-year non-exclusive deal with Universal Pictures. Universal’s 2004 release of Van Helsing marked the first film under the new banner. Stephen Sommers wrote, directed and produced the film, along with Bob Ducsay who produced and edited. The third installment in the Mummy franchise, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, marks the banner’s second film, and Paramount’s G.I. Joe its third.
Sommers Company has a number of projects in development, including the adventure-driven Jason and the Argonauts and the William Goldman scripted epic, Flame Over India. An adaptation of Terry Brooks’ fantasy novel Magic Kingdom For Sale is also in the works. Other projects on Sommers Company’s slate run the spectrum from broad comedy to adult thriller.
