Attendance Policy
What can I do if I was denied credit for excessive absences?

Students who were denied credit can meet with Mrs. Lamb to sign a contract for excellent attendance for the next term and possibly have the credit/grade earned added back to official record. Most times the contract will require missing fewer than 3 class periods in all classes to earn the credit back.

Students who miss an excessive number of days of a class will be denied credit, regardless of the grade earned in the class. Because SHS operates with a modified schedule, some classes run for 45 minutes and some run for 90 minutes. Because the policy affects the different class formats, the specifics are described below:
45-minute class attendance requirements:
Students who miss between 11 and 20 class sessions in an 18 week semester, will be required to earn a passing score on the final exam in order to receive the credit earned in the class.
Students who miss 21 or more days class sessions in an 18-week semester, will be denied credit (regardless of numerical grade earned and recorded on Pinnacle).
90-minute class attendance requirements:
Students who miss between 6 and 10 class sessions in a nine-weeks, will be required to earn a passing score on the final exam in order to receive the credit earned in the class.
Students who miss 11 or more class sessions in a nine-weeks, will be denied credit (regardless of numerical grade earned and recorded on Pinnacle). Credit will be ‘identified’ as ‘withheld due to excessive absenteeism’.
What types of absences ‘count’ as absent?

All class periods missed count as an absent. The following types of absences with documentation turned in appropriately will be excluded from the absent count and are not counted against the student:
Funerals of family members
Doctors appointments with documentation turned in within 5 days of absence
Subpoenaed court appearances with documentation turned in.
School related absences (sporting events, contests, etc.)
Pre-arranged administrative absences (absences approved by administration as ‘excluded’ prior to absence).
