To document the work of chaplains with the troops, we spent three months embedded with the US military in Afghanistan and Iraq. We chronicled some of our experiences in blogs.
A series of six chaplain profiles and six short videos for the Christian Science Monitor grew out of our three-month embed with the US military in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Most arguments about the chaplaincy revolve around the Constitution, specifically the 1st Amendment. The most recent challenge came in 1986 with a Federal Court of Appeals case. The court upheld the Constitutionality of military chaplains.
CHAPLAINS UNDER FIRE is the title of a film documentary that examines the lives and work of military chaplains and the Church-State tensions at the heart of the chaplaincy.
