2008 Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts
2008 Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts

Event Profile: Lake Oswego, an attractive arts oriented suburb of Portland, Oregon, is celebrating its 45th annual Festival of the Arts. The Festival is a major regional arts event presenting the creative endeavors of recognized and emerging artists and enjoys an outstanding reputation for bringing special exhibits of quality and diversity to a weekend that is accessible to everyone. Attracting some 25,000 visitors during the three days of the event, the Festival includes several art exhibits, food booths, music, and a Craft Faire and in 2008 will feature an international juried and invitational show of wood fired ceramics.
Special Exhibit: The 2008 Festival’s cornerstone exhibit will be Painting with Fire: Wood Fired Ceramics. This exhibition will feature the largest gathering of wood fired ceramics ever assembled in the state of Oregon. Developed over 6,000 years ago, this art form is being rediscovered across the globe, not only as an ancient tradition, but also as an expressive tool for contemporary art. The exhibit will feature the works of leading regional, national, and international artists. Lectures, displays, and demonstrations featuring the techniques of this art form are also scheduled throughout the three-day Festival.
Judges: Ceramic artists submitted three pieces to be juried by three distinguished wood fire artists: Robert Barron, Hiroshi Ogawa, and Tom Rohr. The curator for this special exhibit is Natalie Warrens.
