Looking Forward to Bridges

There are between 370 and 410 bridges in Venice – I get mixed answers online.  Not sure how many are in Burano or Murano….that may account for the difference in counts.

At any rate, in 151 days I will be arriving in Venice.  I would like to cross at least 200 of the city bridges in the 28 days I am there.  It’s a goal.  It’s a way of ensuring that I walk the town end to end, width and breadth.  I think I’ll bring a special map along just to mark off the bridges.

This is all most likely a sign of a somewhat flat (or perhaps stressful) day.  I’m thinking about Venice.

Venice. Venezia. La Serenissima. Queen of the Adriatic.   I’m thinking of languid afternoons sitting with a glass of prosecco in my hand and listening to Kay recount a colorful story of her childhood (hopefully not the one where a neighbor was decapitated by a chicken-feed truck on the highway).

I’m thinking of early mornings on my own little terrace, with that marked-off map spread before me, as I work out which sestiere I should stroll to before lunch.

I’m thinking of a foggy night on the Piazza San Marco….a sunny morning on the vaporetto crossing out to walk along the Lido….strolling into the bustling Rialto market, the whole place ripe with the scent of mushrooms and the sea.

Seven or eight unique bridges a day…that should be quite doable.
