Beautiful fall battle day
Beautiful fall battle day
(provided by CO Steve Patton) - The October 12th Battle was a huge success!
The weather was perfect and we had over 20 tanker/friends gather for great day of battle and BBQ. We did a couple scenario games where one team had to wined through the roads in a column formation and was not able to fire or break formation until fired upon; simulating an ambush. This turned out to be a lot of fun and created perfect opportunities for tank destroyers. Tank traps were allowed to be place by the ambushing team to help funnel the formation into the ambush. Things didn’t always turn out as we suspected and one round was won by the team that was ambushed.
We had a number of exciting long lasting battles, some around 30 minutes. It seems long range sniper tactics was the call of the day with only a few brave tankers moving in to cause confusion. One particular round the Allies had the high ground and out numbered the Axis. Two veteran Sherman crews decided to descend, bypassing the mountain roads down a steep embankment. The first Sherman ended up sliding down the hill and ended up on its lid on the next road below. The second Sherman slid down the hill and ended up on its side, on top of the bottom of the first Sherman. This took them both out of the battle early and the Axis went on to win (names are withheld to protect the guilty) Great battle!!
There were a number of new toys and projects displayed by various members. Steve K. has his new 1/16 Trumpeter US half track. Ron Bair is working on a scratch built Chaffy. Darrin and Meryl are both working on Staghounds. Merle was also running his updated Sdfk 251 C Flakwagen. Ethan is working with Craig on more stuff than I can count on two hands!
Thanks everyone who attended, it was great seeing everyone. For those who missed it we hope to see you next time.
