New and old, yin and yang, fast and slow, kind and cruel. China is proving to be a country where opposites complement and sustain one another. I’m still surprised by it...by the rickshaws next to the Mercedes at stoplights, by the water jugs delivered by tricycle, by the phenomenal number of cranes at building sites, by the number of bricks left behind when an old neighborhood is torn down to make room for a new skyscraper and the fact that every one of those bricks will be reused in another building, by the art which is vibrant and alive and moving.
