C likes to rock the house: Loves old school hip hop a la Big Daddy Kane, digs on the Beastie Boys, and mellows out with a Tribe Called Quest.

Of course Cecilie loves her some Earthy-Granola tunes by the Grateful Dead (she has patchouli scented incense burning right now) and Donovan (Cecilie loves your shirt). Of course C likes ‘country before country was cool songs’. Speed metal cannot be far behind.

Cecilie says ‘Share, Share Friend’ what is on your iPod?? Help her cultivate and enrich her iPod library.

She is growing and filling out (though she still has long skinny chicken legs) ; She is a pretty little bebe,

Cecilie likes playing on her activity mat and reaches up for objects. She is focusing and fixating on her parents faces as well as staring at things we are not quite sure of. Cecilie is much more alert and awake during the day is doing better at night (woo hoo!!!) Oh, she also is making cute spittle bubbles and cooing noises (which is the best sound ever)!

Mama is still working on her get rich quick plan so she can stay home longer. Childcare is a scary thought and already is breaking her parents heart. The USA is so lacking in taking progressive strides to allow more flexibility for working families; ditto for corporate and non-profit America (well at least Cecilie’s parents situation).

Enough soapboxing; Happy big four weeks C!!!
Every day at about 7 PM, and about as fast switching on a light, Cecilie takes on a new personality. She moves from quiet and cuddly to inconsolable terror, and there is no missing it. From this point on, Cecilie is up and down every two hours max, leaving her parents exhausted and perplexed.

Where does it come from? Hunger? A need to be held? Is it gas? I’m sure all parents have gone through this and have been equally flummoxed and somewhat frustrated. Of course, every book has another answer for the crying, and another solution. I guess, as always, it turns into one of those things you end up “feeling out.” Still, we’d love to hear some stores and solutions....

Big Kisses to All from Cecilie!

Week Two milestones: Umbilical stump fell off (gasp and a few tears from mama), new facial expressions, face is filling out, more heft to Cecilie. People have stated , “Oh, she will change so quickly, just watch!” I was skeptical but now I am a believer; I am astounded by how my daughter is developing and am in awe of her quite frankly.

Oh, Cecilie would like to take this opportunity to thank all of her friends and family for the welcome wishes and thoughtful gifts; Mama and Papa are grateful to have such wonderful people in our lives and we cannot thank you all enough.

On the weekends, we can’t go in the yard.
Our neighbor keeps his dogs outside all day. Were they well trained, and had my neighbor a brain in his head, it wouldn’t be an issue, But as it is, the dogs bark at our every motion. A walk to the garage is excruciating. They also will bark along the fence, loud enough that we have to close the kitchen window to kill the noise. Can’t wait until we try to sell the house.

Worse, their yard is a cesspool of crap and mud. As the temperature changes the smell gets worse. Our neighbors don’t use their garage, and only throw out the garbage apparently when the back door is blocked (I saw him running out 8 full garbage bags the other day). So they can ignore the filth behind the house, where the barking dogs spend their time.

I’ve asked about it in the past and for the most part, these people just don’t care.

Ideas?
Happy one week old birthday Cecilie!! We are so happy that she is part of our lives.

Observations of Little Miss Cecilie: Despises diaper changes and all things associated with pooh; makes the most incredibly cute faces; favorite photo op spot is her Boppy Lounger from her friend Laura (Connors that is) and digs rocking the baby mohawk.

As you can tell by the pic, mama and daughter are growing accustomed to hanging out and sharing a growing appreciation of info-mercials (there are some very clever products out there!); I feel a burgeoning addiction about to start.
Tomorrow I go back to work. I wish I was smart or creative enough to work from home or own my own business. Not being able to grab and hold my little girl on a second’s notice is going to hurt.

Today we went to the pediatrician’s office for her first check up. Cecilie is doing great. Head is 33 cm, length is 18.75 cm and she’s almost back to her birth weight (at 5 lbs 10 oz.). She barely cried the whole time. She also peed on her papa, which he wore as a badge of honor the rest of the visit. Later, she got back at mama peeing on her too.

Cecilie opens her eyes during sleep. It’s strange. Sometimes I think she’s up, but her body moves as if she is fast asleep, which she is. What does she dream about? Her experiences here are so few (as far as we know). Does she dream of eating? Her time in the womb? The terrible time she has during changing time?

Today we left the hospital, after a a final day that lasted forever. We had to wait for the second jaundice test results (the first one was high). After about 4 hours, the tests came back fine. No glowing blankets. No diet changes. Just time to go home.
I think for the most part we both agree that the hospital staff was great. The delivery crew, the nurses (especially the delivery nurse and day nurse), the OB/GYN and the pediatricians. There were a few glitches - ask Kristin about her veins - but mostly everything was taken care of very well.
But now we are home. So much to show little Cecilie.

I’m getting used to this little life sleeping on my chest. Every once in a while she stirs, or - if hungry - cries out. But mostly, she sleeps like the rest of us, smacking her lips from time to time, moving around a little, a whimper here and there. I love it. Mom does too, and since she feeds the baby, she wins. But when I get my chances, I revel in them.
