The Preschool Program

The Summer Preschool Program takes full advantage of St. Matthew’s beautiful park-like setting.  Carefully designed activities and a generous teacher-student ratio provide for the young child’s enjoyment, growth, and safety at all times.  The summer program provides a comfortable transition between the child’s familiar program of the past year and the new challenge of the year to come. 

The Preschool I Program concentrates on making the transition from the toddler classroom to the preschool classroom.  Special emphasis is given to personal-social development and communication skills.  If this is your child’s first group experience, we strongly encourage that his or her enrollment be during the first three weeks (June 23-July 10) or during the full five week session (June 23 – July 24).  To be eligible for the summer Preschool I Program, boys need to be 3 years of age by June 1, 2008 and girls need to be 3 years of age by September 1, 2008.  The program is not staffed or furnished to handle diaper changing.  Thus, preschool students in the summer program need to be reliable about taking care of their own toileting needs.  If parents have concern or questions about readiness to participate in St. Matthew’s Preschool I Program, please contact Jane Young, Principal, PS-4th Grade, at 310-454-1350 Ext. 137.

The Preschool II Summer Program aims to enhance and expand the four and five year old’s previous school experience.  Activities will center around meaningful, seasonal themes.  To participate in the Preschool II Program, children need to have had one year’s experience in a preschool program.  Additionally, boys must be four years of age by June 1, 2008 and girls must be four years of age by September 1, 2008.

At both levels, adventures in science, cooking, music, movement, art, language arts, and math encourage the children to explore, to discover, to learn, and to have fun!

Schedule & Fees for Preschool

The Preschool Summer Program runs Monday through Thursday mornings from 8:30-11:30 a.m.  Students may attend the morning session for all five weeks, three weeks, or two weeks.  There is no afternoon program at the preschool level.  Please see Preschool Registration form.

The Summer Preschool Program is open to all age-eligible children, whether they attend St. Matthew’s or whether they attend another preschool program during the regular school year.  St. Matthew’s preschool students enrolled for the regular fall program will receive preference

until April 28, 2009.
