Preparing for the SOL Tests

Many of the links to the left are from Tami Maloney’s site in Poquoson, VA. The Jefferson Lab site is also very good. The links to the Jefferson Lab tests provided to the left will take you to the JLAB intro. page where you can select 20 or 40 question tests, and also choose other options if you are targeting specific areas. There are a number of other resources including the Wise County site, a good 8th grade is the Quia site from Rockingham County and a 7th grade civics site is the Quia site from Rockingham County, and links on the SOL Pass site. If you find additional links that you feel could benefit teachers and students in Stafford’s middle schools, please email kramertw@staffordschools.net or flathsl@staffordschools.net.

The best preparation for any test is a good education. Students that have been attentive and interested in learning tend to do better than students that are unmotivated. Even good preparation is not enough for every student to succeed. Some students experience test anxiety which can be helped by building up a familiarity with the test layout. Helping these students visualize what will happen on testing day is a good way to help alleviate the stress. Rehearsal of test questions on the sites included here are a good way to help...especially as we move to more and more tests being conducted online.

All students should get a good night’s rest and a good breakfast before any testing day. Being prepared for the test with the right materials and a good attitude will go a long way to helping a student do their best.
