that's right, i still get to go on field trips! today (yesterday) my aerospace education class went to the local airport to learn about gliders and helicopters. the day included us taking glider rides, a lecture from a retired army colonel, and then an apache and a blackhawk helicopter landed outside the hanger and let us ask questions and poke around their helicopters. very cool! the apache was especially cool with its creepy electronic eye protruding from the front of the aircraft. it is synchronized with the pilots helmet so that it's laser/gun/night vision looks wherever the pilots look. awesome.
the glider ride was also cool. it was my first time to be flying in a plane that didn't have an engine. so quiet! a super cup towed us up to about 4000 feet, then released us and let us glide around for awhile doing some simple maneuvers.
although it was VERY long day (7 hours of class then 7 hours of work), the experience was great and i got a killer sun burn from being outside watching gliders and helicopters fly all day. good times. tomorrow we are going to kc downtown airport to tour the tower and meet up with execs. then we are going to tour a tv station and hang with brian busby for a bit. what does a tv station and brian busby have to do with aviation? your answer is as good as mine, just something cool to do?
btw. i am now accepting donations for an iphone. thank you.
