The Shrewsbury League of Women Voters once again has made Voting Fashionable for Shrewsbury High School students, taking them to the polls on Election Day by Limousine. The Limosine was generously donated by Shrewsbury resident Allan Weagle, owner of aPerfectLimo limousine service. For the last two years, the league has put this event together to start students off with a memorable voting experience to encourage their active participation in government and to be life long voters.
Special guest escort State Representative Karyn Polito, (league member) along with League of Women Voters of Massachusetts Executive Director and Shrewsbury League President Kelly Marcimo, and Membership Chair Kristin Oliveri accompanied the students to their polling locations. During the drive around town the students were treated to Representative Polito’s first hand account of her experiences as a voter, then town meeting member, selectman and ultimate arrival to her current role as a State legislator. Which led to a discussion on how local government works and why it is important for everyone to participate in democracy.
Students returned to school following their fashionable voting experience.
