Komunitas TUK- Tanam Untuk Kehidupan (’Planting for Life’) is an environmentally concerned community of artists and volunteers established in 2006 and based in Salatiga, Central Java. Komunitas TUK actively campaigns the issues of water conservation and the environment to the wider community via the use of art and cultural practice. TUK is a non-profit organisation (lembaga) that is linked to a large network of art and environmental communities and organizations, both locally and internationally.

TUK (Planting for Life) believes that to plant an environmental ideology is as important as planting trees itself. We use art and creative practice as a medium to provide basic information and knowledge about our local and global environment and what we can all do to make changes on a daily basis. Our campaign aims to make people start THINKING! This is where the process of changes begins.

TUK’s Environmental Campaign theme for 2009 is ”Catch Water - Plant Trees”. Our program for the year is all about sustainability, increasing awareness and collective ACTION. Festival Mata Air 2009 will focus on Water Conservation & Protection and will continue to improve on TUK’s unique formula of environmental campaigning, combining art and culture with environmental awareness, networking and collective optimism, simplicity, openness and transparency. TUK’s 2009 program, with a wide range of activities from murals & environmental publications, to art exhibitions, music, and a Regional Forum on Water Conservation, continues to promote environmental awareness at a grassroots level in a vibrant and creative way.
