- Cast on 8 stitches and join to commence circular knitting. I use Emily Ocker’s Cast On method to begin.
- *PM, kf&b* 8 times
(Place marker. Knit front and back of next stitch or use any increase method you like, knit one, Repeat 7
more times. . You now have 16 stitches)
Two row repeat: Row 1: Knit to end.
Row 2 *Slip marker, Kf&b, knit to next marker* 8 times.
Repeat these two rows until you have 88 stitches.
- Knit straight until desired length. (You might want to keep a count of the rows knit because you have to knit the same
number of rows for the other side.)
OPTIONAL: After knitting to the top of the forehead, evenly decrease 8 stitches around. If you keep the stitch markers on the work, then you can decrease when you reach each marker. I decrease for bit of snugness to keep the hat on the head. After this decrease row, knit until desire length.
- Purl one row. This purl row creates a nice crease when the hat is folded in half.
- Break off yarn. Join new color yarn and knit to match the other side. (IF you did the optional decrease row around
the forehead, then remember to increase at the same point on the new side.)
- At the crown, you decrease every other row (instead of increasing) after slipping each marker until 8 stitches remain.
- Break off yarn. Using a darning needle, run the yarn through the remaining stitches and remove them from the
needles. Pull the hole closed and weave in yarn to secure and then hide the yarn inside the hat.
