2008
In December, I accepted a new position within Philips as a Marketing Director for the global headquarters in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Why? On a PROFESSIONAL level I have always dreamed of doing an international assignment, and I have long pursued an opportunity to gain valuable marketing experience. Amsterdam is the nerve center for Philips, which is a powerful global brand despite our smaller presence in the US. This assignment is a great enhancement to my career, providing excellent exposure to our company’s global operations.
On a PERSONAL level, how can we pass up an opportunity to live and work in western Europe? Fortunately this family is an adventurous bunch, so it wasn’t too difficult a decision. We love to travel, we love to eat different foods, we love to explore and experience different cultures.

Kevin’s new job
The official language of the Netherlands is Dutch, but nearly everyone speaks English. English is the official language at the office, so it’s used for all communication. Like Amsterdam, the composition of Philips Amsterdam office is less than 50% Dutch nationals. I am one of the first American expats to make the move from my division.
