Yep. I forgot to gesso my little square boards - had to use another size. It works well with this composition, I'm very happy with it. The way I approached this painting was to work on the subject first - the leaves, blooms, the vase and the shadow - then use the neutral background to define the edges. Lots of swirls and brush strokes that I didn't want to smooth out - I like the energy it creates.
