“Lake Effect Traffic”
6 x 6” oil on masonite

My first full day in
Chicago started early.
Being mid-summer,
the skies were bright
and glary already -
something I refer to as
‘squinty’ - where the
light and reflections
just about blind you.
I find that cities by
the water, like Chicago
and San Francisco,
have this different
luminosity and glow - which makes for interesting painting.

This is near the corner of Michigan Avenue and Wacker Drive,
looking in the direction of Lake Michigan.
