Baer Press is proud to announce its third editioned multiple by Seattle Based artist Victoria Haven. Haven’s wall mounted sculpture, Iampayingattention, operates as an artist statement and the title for her most recent body of work. The text piece, which she created in collaboration with Baer Press and master blacksmith Maria Cristalli, is a single cursive statement in the artists handwriting made from more than 10 feet of cold-rolled 1/4” steel rod. Finished with a smooth, white plastic coating, and projecting 1” from the wall, the epigram continues Haven’s interest in challenging the viewer’s perspective through the use of multiple dimensions and the open ended nature of this dialogue. Conceived as a response to Bruce Nauman’s famous 1973 exhortation, the work exists as part of an ongoing conversation with her own history as well as a comment on her role as an artist—inviting the viewer to join in the process. ( click on image for details ) Haven is a two time recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Fellowship, and holds a Masters degree in Fine Art from Goldsmiths College/University of London. Other prestigious awards include the 2004 Seattle Art Museum's Betty Bowen Award, and 'The Stranger' Genius Award for a visual artist in 2004. More recently Haven has shown at Seattle's Frye Museum, and was included in Tacoma Art Museum's Northwest Biennial .
