Unexpected Visitors

Yesterday morning, Daniel called me and told me he had a rprise for me. He told me he was bringing three medical students home for supper and the evening. They were 3 backpackers from Cleveland, Indiana, and Florda(they went to bible college together) who were in town for one day and catching a bus to Uganda late last night. It was a great story how Daniel met them. They were in Kisumu to meet one of their sponsored children through Compassion. The representative couldn’t find the child and got frustrated and needed help so he called the man who trained him but no longer works for Compassion. That man was Tobias, who now is the director of the Father’s Heart child sponsorship program that we are associated with. So Jasper and Tobias met them downtown, and Tobias knew the family they were looking for. There was a few hours until they would be able to meet so they drove the kids(all around 25 years old) to the church where Daniel was at the time. Daniel then took them to the provincial hospital where they were scheduled to do rounds with a doctor there. After their meeting with the sponsored girl, we picked them up again and brought them to our house. They had been on a bus all night and were dirty and tired. We took them swimming and then home for fried chicken and sweet potatoes(Sophie’s specialty). We stayed up until 12:30 visiting and laughing and having a grand old time. Then Daniel(and a Masai) took them to the bus stop. It was a wonderful evening of laughter and sharing.
Oh ya! One of the girls was studying osteopathic medicine (similar to chiropracty) so she adjusted my back and neck. How perfect was that.(but she wasn’t as good as you,  Dr. Irwin!)
It was refreshing to have an informal evening with friends. I’ve been doing my best not to get lonely, but I see it pop up every now and then. When Daniel first invited them, they said they didn’t want to intrude on his family. Daniel corrected them saying that if I found out he had met them without me I’d be very upset. It was nice to give them a good meal and a shower as they had been travelling for some time and staying in small villages with no electricity or water. They are on their way to Nigeria to work with an AIDS medical camp.
It was just such a God thing. They were an emotional blessing to us with their fast friendship and laughter and we were able to take care of their physical needs. They had no plan of how/where they were going to spend the day or get to the bus stop that late at night in an unsafe part of town.
My girls had a blast with them too. Before bed Livy prayed, “I pray that Ashley, and Kendra, and Peter can come to Canawa and see me”
