Okay, he’s not really the reason I haven’t been around, but he’s not helping. This Daniel Craig chap’s always been on my radar (Layer Cake, anyone? Love is the Devil? Road to Perdition?) but his take on James Bond has taken my breath away like no one since Sean Connery in Goldfinger. Coming from this rabid, devout BondJamesBond fan, that’s sayin’ something. I freely admit that the time I could be spending here, I’ve been sorta using to see Casino Royale over and over. Life is too damn short not to repeatedly watch this man emerge from the Bahamian surf a la Ursula Andress but with a better swimsuit.
I digress.
I’ve been on retreat the last two weeks finishing the final edits on in Cars, my next book with Turnstone Press (scheduled for April publication). My new chapbook, Aberrant Lounges, is also out with the Martian Press. I’ll post ordering details here and on my news page when I receive them if anyone is interested in dropping 5 bucks to see some new(ish) work by me.
As to the Wine and the Are (which I do realize, in my less distracted moments, is the reason we’re all here), I was able to keep caught up while on retreat, but the show existed for me as nothing more than brain-candy to help clear my head after a long day of writing, and to prepare it for many a long night of the same. Now that I’m home, I vow to give it my usual respect and attention, complete with the scathing commentary about bad outfits that you’ve come to expect.
Stay tuned. I haven’t watched yesterday’s show yet, and I’m sure today’s Wine and Are gathering at the home of one of my faithful compatriots will lead to much sipping, hilarity, and unfortunate wardrobe choices.
I should let you know that you may want to modify your sipping games just slightly while watching the show. My retreat pal and I decided to toast each other (she with her big, plastic wine goblet and me with my Crimson Lights coffee mug) each time the coffee mugs appear, but also every time anyone says “House of Kim” or refers to Mr. Kim, no matter how peripherally. We deemed it appropriate to sip each time my name is mentioned. I like that idea.
