Todays kids have grown up digital. They have had access to a world of new possibilities, some good, some not so

good. I believe it is the responsibility of parents, teachers and other adult mentors to join kids on the digital

playgrounds and to teach them to be happy and healthy cyber-citizens. With the advent of cyber-bullying and all of

it’s far reaching consequences, we can no longer afford to wait idly by while emotional damage is done. I speak to

groups all over the country and share all that I learn and continue to learn, to help you plow this ever-changing ground.

One of my biggest goals is to provide you with new resources, links and tips to help simplify your job as mentors of

21st century children.

When I visit a community, I like to speak to kids, teachers and parents about online safety, bullying and cyber-bullying

so that good conversations can begin. The “great sites” link at the top of this page will take you to a page with a large

variety of links to resources that can help you learn what you need to know to feel comfortable parenting in the online

world and with the issues around bullying and cyber-bullying.

Upon request, I can bring Starbuck, the Cyber-Safety Pup. He likes to come

along and soften the message as I share with younger kids.

Bullying, whether digital or analogue is wrong and must be stopped in our

schools. I like to talk to kids at all grade levels about the effects of bullying and

the reasons we shouldn’t allow it in school or anywhere else.
