Flight - Exploring Meaning from Childhood

As a child in Poland, Edward Rokosz stood at the edge of  fields watching the burning crops and barn of his father’s farm.  “Much was destroyed, but the birds got away,” says Rokosz recalling the memory of a flock of birds escaping his torched homeland and reflecting on a reoccurring theme of flight in many of his works. “Since then, I’ve always been fascinated with birds, with flight, that tension between confinement and freedom.”
