ABOUT KEYA:
After having two major surgeries, losing one ovary and a fallopian tube, I knew that Western Medicine was not for me. The doctors I put faith in were not interested in healing my condition, medically termed, “endometriosis” which included ovarian cysts and fibroids in my womb. I was told, “There is no cure for endometriosis. You will just have to learn to live with it.” I suffered during my menstrual cycle for over 12 years of my life. After my last surgery, I was put on hormones and several different medications, including birth control pills, to suppress any new growths.
I was feeling less and less connected to my body-not to mention the hot flashes I was having as a result of the hormone therapy. I felt lost, confused, alone and scared. Deep down I knew there had to be another way, so I searched for alternative therapies to no avail. One year later, the endometriosis returned and my doctors told me that I would probably not be able to have children. They recommended that I have my THIRD surgery in six years.
I was devastated! Why was this happening to me? I was only 24 years old. It was at that moment that I knew that it was time for a change. Why was I expecting someone else to give me the solution to my health? I had reintroduce myself to my own body.
I was fortunate to find a small group of young health conscious beings led by a wonderful herbalist/health guru (Djehuty Ma’at-Ra of Dherbs.com) on a similar path. The products, information, and great encouragement we exchanged within this group changed my life. I became a HEALTH NUT.
I did several full body detoxes using different herbal combinations and started magnet therapy. I cut fish and dairy out of what I thought was a ‘vegetarian” diet and became “vegan.” (no animal products, alcohol, or dairy.) I began to seriously practice yoga while receiving acupuncture treatments. I purchased an ozone machine for quality air and water purification inside my home. They make such a difference in the household.
I told my doctors I had no interest in being a lifetime consumer for their medical establishment. Eventually, I started making my own herbal combinations and became my own doctor. I focused on herbs that supported the female reproductive system, dissolving cysts and fibroids. I took them religiously and was successful at stabilizing my condition. I was popping pills again, but this time, they were working with my body naturally, to bring me back to balance, and cleanse out the 12 years of toxins I had consumed in the form of medicine and poor eating habits.
I joined a spiritual women’s health group where we openly discussed different illnesses that plague women of today. We laughed , cried, and re-discovered our “womb-anhood” with the assistance of Queen Afua’s, “Sacred Woman” book. It was here I realized dis-ease is just a physical manifestation of our thoughts, and that true healing starts in the mind.
Within months, I began to feel better. My menstrual cycle went down from seven to five days with NO PAIN. This was the first time in 12 years that I had a cycle without pain and my fibroids were reduced by 75%.
Through positive affirmation and disciplined health regimens, I was able to shrink the cysts on my one remaining ovary and WOW my doctors on my next examination. When they asked what I had done, I smiled and told them I just started to listen to my body and give it exactly what it needed to heal itself.
After starting this amazing life journey, I have been blessed with a little boy, now five-years-old, who is my joy!
