Forty years ago, Apollo XI journeyed to the Sea of Tranquility and returned safely to earth, thereby achieving President Kennedy’s goal, while capturing the dreams, passions and emotions of a first-time ever, truly global audience.

The summer of 1969 was an historic time, a turbulent time of war and a time before cell phones, 24-hour cable news or the Internet. It was a time when daily newspapers, magazines and just three major U.S.  television networks kept an Apollo XI news-hungry public informed.

Around the world, the BBC covered the epic flight for an even larger European audience, and reporters from Germany, France, Japan and from all corners of the globe were focused on that one story.

This award-winning documentary film explores the behind-the scenes world of the beat reporters, NASA media officials and many others who played an important role in communicating the stories about the Apollo XI mission and the U.S. Space program.
