If you have to “baby proof” something, that usually means that you’ve waited too long. It usually means that you’ve had an “OH, CRAP” moment which usually consists of one parent panicking more than ever, while also peeking around the corner to make sure that the other parent is still oblivious to what just happened on your watch. You know, there is always the “better parent” image to maintain.... unless of course, you are in our house. Kevin will walk around proudly... “Did you know that Taylor can crawl around and hold seventeen pennies in his mouth AT THE SAME TIME?!?” Ok, perhaps that is a slight exaggeration. But I am seriously amazed at the “feats” our children are capable of. We should have known better. Ada (our 1-year-old consultant) was here three months ago... and we really should have known better.
I will admit, shopping for “baby proofing” items is a little addictive. There are just so many things to “ooh” and “ahhh” over! Granted, there are some products I look at and think “oh my, this must be for parents that don’t EVER keep an eye on their children” and then there are the others where I think “yes, I agree.... if Taylor or Mallory ate dishwashing detergent, that would be a bad thing... wait... what ARE the active ingredients in dishwashing detergent?? We ARE eating off these plates, you know!”
In diet news, mommy is still nursing and the babies are still eating homemade baby food. I honestly can not believe that we’ve all four managed to keep both of those going for so long and I really am proud of myself. Mallory and Taylor will seriously eat about anything you put in front of them. And they AREN’T starving babies.... Mallory’s thighs are witness to that. We have recently realized that the babies have been primarily vegetarian, and really haven’t eaten hardly any meat at all. I haven’t been vegetarian since I became pregnant with the little fellas, so it has been completely unintentional. We’ve started grilling chicken, and blending it up with their vegetables.
We’re also starting to plan their 1st birthday party (and no, I can’t believe it either.) With all of our families living in Atlanta, and with both of us going to Tech and having the majority of our closest college and church friends here.... I felt like we were tabling out the guest list for our wedding or something. I starting panicking when it got to 50 people, and I think we finished off the list around 80? There just wasn’t anyone on our list that we couldn’t invite!!! We are just so close with our families and friends (which REAAAALY comes in hand when you bring twins home from the hospital.) I’m sure that many people won’t come.... right?!?!? I’m completely panicked about the mob of people that are going to be in attendance... (and I suggest we all pray that it doesn’t rain)... and here’s hoping that the next blog doesn’t tell tales of a chaotic disaster. (fingers crossed).
