The Regional Exit Portfolio

Why Portfolio?

The exit portfolio:
•	demonstrates academic progress and personal growth over time
•	empowers students to take responsibility for and reflect upon their learning
•	provides the student with an opportunity to share their growth with their parents, community members, employers, and institutions of higher education

The portfolio is not a project; it is an ongoing process of collection, selection, and reflection. While the portfolio preserves memories on a personal level, it also clarifies accomplishments and measures whether you have attained the school’s expectations for learning.

When should I work on my portfolio?

The Department of Education requires that all students in high school spend 990 hours a year in academic study. Students who take seven subjects a year need to engage in additional directed studies to fulfill the 990 hours academic study requirement. The Regional Exit Portfolio project is worth 100 hours per year – roughly 2 1/2 hours per week. To meet the state mandated 990 hours without the 100 hours per year of PORTFOLIO, the alternative could be a longer school day or more school days.

In School
You should work on your portfolio during your Directed Study, during your Homeroom time and during the designated Portfolio days each semester
On Wednesday’s during your directed study time you will be expected to work on your Portfolio!

At Home
You will have to complete pieces at home and on your own time! After completing work at home- bring it in on Wednesday to include on in your portfolio.

Completed work should be submitted according to the timeline. Work can be submitted electronically at any time but must meet the deadline as well.
Late reflections will not be assessed and you will receive an L as a grade. Your portfolio advisor is responsible for assessing not only your reflections but those of your portfolio group therefore your work needs to be submitted on time. Late work creates a hardship for the teacher and your overall portfolio grade will be affected.

Failure to complete a portfolio will result in your failure to graduate. At the end of sophomore year any student not making adequate progress will not be able to participate in junior class events.

Revisions to Reflections – you are expected to do your best work! Your portfolio advisor is not expected to reassess your reflections. If you are unhappy with the initial assessment you may redo the piece and include it with the original reflection. At the final assessment (during senior year) any revisions will be taken into consideration to make the final assessment.
