In early 2004 I had decided it was time to take a break from youth ministry after 10 years of work.  Going into business for myself was certainly an option but I had no idea exactly what kind of business.              In the spring of 2004 my father and I were very close to opening a business in Madison to be patterned after the concept of a business owned by a friend of my father called “Johnny Mango’s.”  Johnny Mango’s is located in south Florida where my father resides.  The concept fell through but the process gave birth to an idea that fit quite nicely with the age old wisdom of “work at something you love and you will always love your work:”  Coffee.  I loved coffee and I loved seing people relax and enjoy one another’s company.  This, along with my love for Honduras, its “laid back” culture and its people (created from six years of summer work there)  prompted me to create a coffee shop that provided a traditional colonial Caribbean atmosphere.  Most everybody loves the beach and most everybody “needs” to relax more.  Combine that with a great latte, smoothie or cappuccino and you have Kenny Mango’s Coffee.
I opened the first Kenny Mango’s Coffee in September of 2004 on the North Side of the downtown Huntsville square.  After three years I decided to move to a higher traffic location where I could also have a drive thru and adequate parking.  And, no, my last name is not Mango.
