Kenneth White
Kenneth White is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, and programmer. His work focuses on critique of image and attention economies. He received his B.F.A. from Syracuse University in 2005. In 2008, White begins doctoral studies in art history at Stanford University.
While a student at Syracuse University he created the Thursday Screeners Visiting Artist Program, which included appearances by Michael Snow, Carolee Schneemann, and Su Friedrich. White also co-presented artist talks by Martina Kudlácek and Peter Kubelka, and 16 mm film retrospectives of Kubelka, Marie Menken, and Maya Deren. In addition, White co-curated the highly regarded Spark Video Program, a monthly exhibition of local and international video art.
White's films and videos have screened at such venues as Anthology Film Archives; Hong Kong University; University of Lima, Peru; the Portland Museum of Art, Maine; Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse; Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival; The Tank - New York Experimental; and the Northampton Independent Film Festival; among others.
His writing is published in Millennium Film Journal, Canadian Journal of Film Studies, History and Theory: Protocols, and Super 8 Today Magazine. Additional publications are forthcoming in INCITE!: Journal of Experimental Media + Radical Aesthetics and the Quarterly Review of Film and Video. White has presented writing in academic conferences at the University of California - Riverside, West Virginia University, San Francisco State University, and Plymouth State University.
White has taught media production and aesthetics at Syracuse University and the Maine College of Art. He has received support for his work and programming from Stanford University, Maine Arts Commission, Maine Humanities Council, Syracuse University, Maine College of Art, and Eastman-Kodak.
White’s current research focuses on the work of Wilhelm Reich.
