FLYING
FLYING
I have been flying since 1993. I have always been interested in aviation, but was inspired to get my license after my brother did. Today, he is a pilot in his spare time for the Civil Air Patrol. I have over 650 hours in the air and over 750 takeoffs and landings. I have a private pilots license with single and muli-engine, instrument, and glider ratings. I got my glider rating in Hawaii in 2001 and have 65 glider flights. I have flown twelve different types of airplanes. Prior to owning the Cessna 310R pictured above, I owned a Mooney M20J with another friend.
The planes I have flown are a Cessna 152, Cessna 172, Cessna 182, Cessna 310, Grob 103 sailplane, T-6 Texan, P-3, a Blimp, T-34, Piper Warrior (PA-32), Mooney M20J, and a SGS-232 Sailplane.
I think I might be done with flying for a while. With the time I am spending with my family and Kristin’s schedule I was not flying as much and finding it more of a chore. I am taking a break for a while and will see how I feel next year.
CESSNA 310R
I own this plane with a friend of mine. We keep in in a hangar at Leesburg Airport (KJYO). It is a 1980 Cessna 310R with two 285 HP Teledyne Continental engines. It seats six and has a cruise speed of 180 knots (207MPH). The range varies with fuel settings, but it can fly at top speed for about 4.5 hours. This equals about 1000 miles. The longest trip we have taken is to Disney World in Orlando. The plane is equipped with a Garmin 530 GPS, autopilot, storm scope, traffic avoidance system, six place stereo intercom system, HSI, RMI, and ADF, Gami fuel injectors and Tanis engine heaters.
