Kelly grew up in Lincoln, Neb., earned a BSJ and MSJ from Northwestern University, and lived in Chicago and San Francisco before settling in New York City, where she lives with her husband, Jonathan. She began her career in the wild world of internet startups circa 2000, helping start University Wire, a wire service for college newspapers. Kelly then worked in corporate communications at Gap Inc. and book publishing at HarperCollins before joining the launch team of Tango magazine in 2004. She now works for NewYorker.com, the Web site of The New Yorker magazine.
